The Qube Environmental Policy
This Environmental policy is the policy of The Qube and is implemented on a daily basis throughout the whole spectrum of disciplines and scopes of work.
This policy is continually reviewed and updated where necessary. Should there be any queries or questions regarding the preceding pages please contact Mick Spittle for clarification on 01604 785786
- ·General waste
General waste will be segregated by the contracted sub-contractors on the contract, only depositing the correct waste into the correct skips being provided by the main contractor. (Unless otherwise stated)
- ·Resource consumption
Each and every sub-contractor will have assessed resource consumption and will be constantly monitored to realise improvements wherever possible during their day to day involvement within the project.
- ·Discharge of fluids to water
The discharge of any fluid is prohibited anywhere on site. It is only permissible to controlled disposal locations highlighted by the main contractor
- ·Hazardous Waste
All hazardous waste is to be treated in accordance with our risk assessments and COSHH guidelines, being deposited in only controlled waste collection containers (suitable for purpose), being provided by the licensed waste collection company contracted to the project.
- ·Consideration of environmental impact
Consideration toward materials specified and used through out the project. Wherever possible utilising natural materials from managed sustainable sources i.e. managed hardwood forests, or the inclusion ecologically friendly manmade materials as an alternative.
- ·Air pollution
The production of dust during any work operation is not condoned and is scrutinised thoroughly during the development of a project and all necessary measures are taken to ensure air pollution is kept to a minimum throughout the project. Implementation of dust extraction, Containment and collection is implemented without fail when the scope of work dictates and is forcefully implemented once work commences on site. The use of solvent is strictly monitored on a daily basis, in line with COSHH regulations. The release of refrigerant gasses is strictly forbidden and policed vigorously. Any reclamation of redundant gas is only Contracted out to companies who have registered for refrigerant reclamation. These companies will collect, weigh and issue certification for the gas being reclaimed and the certificate is signed off by a responsible qualified engineer.
- ·Noise / nuisance pollution
The assessment of noise and nuisance pollution is addressed from the outset of a project during the Risk Assessment and Method Statement phase. If there is a method of eliminating this element of pollution from a project it will be seriously considered in every case being adopted when ever possible.
- ·Office environment
Throughout day to day office life we as a company monitor the consumption and use of consumables continually. Any waste paper is shredded and collected for recycling. All PC's and monitors are programmed to revert to standby when only left idle for a short period of time, saving energy .Our office printer has the duplexing technology to print all documents out on both side of the paper thus reducing paper usage (Oct 2002) All printer toner cartridges and drum kits are sent back to the manufactured for re-cycling. Low energy lighting is used wherever possible throughout our building. Our heating system is programmed to suit the prevailing climate.
